Marvel Midnight Suns

I will always be a sucker for a Firaxis game, despite being horrible at it I love the XCOM games. Though I was wary with a large IP like Marvel attached something would give. For the most part nothing did. I loved the combat system they developed for the game. It still has some of XCOM’s positional grid style combat and uses that for certain actions. But the main action comes from it’s deck builder attack system that let’s you create decks based on the strengths of heroes and also the needs for the situation. The story is fine, it gets us to where it needs us to be even if predictable. But truthfully most of Firaxis game feel that way.

One of the worst things about the game is the weird “exploration” section of the game. It isn’t required to do, even if you get some easy side missions to do it. It adds more flavor to the internal conflict of the main characters aunt and Agatha, Scarlet Witch’s mentor, and learning about the space you are in. Outside of that the game is great, it tickles all the right parts of my brain for when it comes to a strategy game. Though it is weird that Marvel wanted two games that use cards and deck building mechanics.

In essence: I’ve had superhero fatigue for a minute but this game rips
